Signature Mowing

Don't mow in the same direction every time. I know that some lawns provide little choice, but whenever possible, vary the pattern from that with which the lawn was last mowed. We call this "signature mowing."

Most mowers of lawns try to visualize rectangles in which they can go back and forth, or up and down because the fewer turns one has to make the faster the job is completed. But we find that signature mowing (say at a 45 degree angle) only adds a few minutes to an average 1/3 acre small lawn.

Benefit No. 1 - signature mowing provides a different angle for the mower blade to cut the grass and deters the grass from growing in only one direction which is a healthier condition.

Benefit No. 2 - a large commercial mower at 450 lbs. can create visible depressions in the soil if the same pattern is followed for every mowing.

Benefit No. 3 - It looks better.
