Island Lawn & Garden Lawns MV Plants

Organic Vs. Inorganic Fertilizers

Inorganic fertilizers are chemical based while organic products are derived from naturally occurring ureas, bones and other such products. Milorganite, an example of the latter and one of the finest products around, is produced by the Sewer Dept. of the city of Milwaukee.

Island Lawn & Garden uses a mixture of organic and inorganic fertilizers depending on the need and the application. For a sprinklered lawn, we'll rely on organic products since they won't leach out of the soil as quickly. In the summer we will always use an organic product because their nitrogen percentages are much lower and that will prevent "burning". For crab grass prevention in the spring, we must use an inorganic product because there is no such thing as an organic based pre-emergent crab grass preventer, yet.

My Lawn - It is my desire, and, as a practitioner, my duty to have as fine a lawn as any of my customers. My lawn doesn't need to be like a putting green (because I don't want to mow it every day), but it needs to be like a fairway and I am OK with mowing it every 4th or 5th day during growth spurts.

Having used organic products exclusively for the past 3 years on my own lawn, I wouldn't use anything else. But they are expensive.
